AI Engineer & Advocate
We’re hiring a curious, hands-on engineer to shape how Thorgate works and grows as an AI-native company, through real projects, prototypes, and team collaboration.
Thorgate is one of Estonia’s most dynamic software product agencies. We build complex web apps, streamline processes, and help our clients innovate fast, focusing on industries like manufacturing, healthtech, forestry and logistics. We’re on a path to becoming an AI-native company – and we’re looking for someone who’s excited to help us take the next step.
We’re hiring an AI Engineer & Advocate who loves experimenting, prototyping, and being the go-to person for everything AI, both inside the company and in the wider community.
This is not just a technical role. You’ll play a key part in deepening our AI capabilities by bringing practical AI solutions into real projects and fostering adoption across teams. You’ll work hands-on, but also help shape how we think and work with AI company-wide.
What You'll Do
- Build and integrate AI-powered features into real-world digital products (e.g., logistics optimization, document intelligence, user assistance tools).
- Design, prototype, and implement AI-powered features using APIs and frameworks like OpenAI, Hugging Face, LangChain, and open-source LLMs. Where needed, fine-tune or adapt pre-trained models for specific business use cases.
- Apply techniques like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to build context-aware assistants and knowledge-based systems.
- Develop lightweight internal tools and automations to support teams across Thorgate.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers and key account managers to implement intelligent solutions that solve real business problems.
- Keep up with the latest AI trends, regulations and bring fresh ideas to the team.
- Be a visible AI advocate – contribute to Thorgate blog, internal learning sessions, community meetups like Code Club and PyCon, or other conferences.
Must-haves:
- Proven experience and passion in AI development – whether through side projects, open-source contributions, hackathons, or consistent self-education.
- Hands-on experience with LLM orchestration tools such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
- Familiarity with using OpenAI API, fine-tuning models, and prompt engineering.
- At least 3 years of programming experience with Python
- A collaborative mindset and clear communication skills.
- Curiosity and initiative – you're not waiting for permission to explore something cool.
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience working with Django and React.js.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Previous speaking experience or eagerness to be part of AI community events.
- Knowledge of data privacy and ethical considerations in AI applications.
Why join us?
- Opportunity to lead meaningful change with AI initiatives across the Thorgate group & within our clients.
- Dedicated time & freedom to work on prototypes, try out tools, or explore new ideas without micromanagement.
- You’ll join teammates who love testing ideas, giving feedback, and building things together.
- We're intentional about using AI responsibly, respecting privacy, and keeping humans in the loop.
- We believe smart people can manage their time and energy. That’s why we’re fully open to flexibility in location and hours.
